Prejudice, is a sign, of ignorance. Ignorance comes from, not knowing much, about, the world. Ignorance, is the cause of, much hate, in, society. People, who need help, should not be judged as, "Bad people." I think the "bad people," are the ones, who caused them, to need help, in the, first, place. "Poor people," in many societies today, are looked down upon. Black people, in America, disproportionately represent, a large portion, of the poor people, here.
Much racial hatred, stems, from believing poor people, and black people, cause their own problems. In the context of "poor people," "spending too much money," is often cited, as the reason, they are, poor. Instead of, giving them what they need, services are currently being, taken away, with cuts to Medicaid, and child welfare, through SNAP. Taking away children's food, from poor people, is not logical. It is, highly prejudicial, and irreverent, toward the values, which I hold dear: Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fear.
President Roosevelt, during the Great Depression, coined these terms, among his "four freedoms." The way they affect Americans today, was the creation of the Social Security system, and welfare for the poorest of Americans. The only logical thing to do, according to our past presidents, has been to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and welcome the stranger.
"The only logical thing to do." What makes that so hard to agree upon? It is, in a word, Prejudice. It is, in a word, Ignorance. We, as Americans, like to think that we teach our children well. We educate them, we give them things, and we buy them big toys. If someone has a toy, and the other child is playing with them, what happens if they do not want to share? We tell them, "It's important to share. Share what you have with others!" Yet we, as Americans, have not taught, even ourselves, to do this! In this day and age, we see the child, without a toy, and we tell them, "It's your fault! You shouldn't have spent your allowance on those other things! Buy your own toys!" While we play with our own toys, oblivious to their pain. Ignorance. Prejudice, is born, out of, ignorance.
