"Literal," or "Face Value?" The true meaning of the scriptures

 2 Corinthians 3:14

[14]But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.

Christ illuminates the true spiritual meaning of the Old Testament. When we read the Old Testament, we must see the veil - and the only way to take it off, is by seeing rightly (not judging by mere appearances), as Jesus said in John 7:24. He was speaking to the Pharisees, who were "judging" Jesus according to the Old Testament law. They were saying that "no work" be done on the Sabbath, but Jesus made a man "whole."

Jesus was speaking to them, in metaphors: John 6:53-56

[53]Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

[54]Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

[55]For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

[56]He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.

Because they did not take his meaning "spiritually," but literally interpreted his words, they got it wrong:

John 6:66

[66]From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.

So when we "literally interpret" something, that does not need to be interpreted "without question," or taken "at face value," we need to stop, and think: what does this REALLY mean? Is there a spiritual interpretation, that I may be missing? Calling on the Holy Spirit is the only way to see the spiritual interpretations in the Bible. I think a "big" problem is that we, as churchgoers, sometimes take and interpret the scripture "at face value," instead of digging for a "deeper" meaning, within the context of asking the Holy Spirit for a True interpretation! Jesus isn't speaking in terms we can understand and interpret, on our own! We need help! Jesus wrote the scripture, through His Holy Spirit. Only Jesus can truly interpret it, without question, because He is the Only One who knows all the true meanings in it! Think about this, as we head into the future - am I interpreting scripture in a way, that somehow disagrees with the direct, message of Christ, which is meant to illuminate the scriptures, and the Whole Bible? Peace, and rest to you on this day.
